Some of the best journeys start as detours.
Today is the last day of 2011. Surprise! Another quiet day.
I went online and ordered some Hearos Ultimate Softness Ear Filters.
Also, I ordered online the Hibernate Sleep Mask.
Actually, I have been on an ordering binge. This week I ordered a kite, a ShamWow!, and Zum Rub Body Moisturizer.
Also, have been reading a lot. John McDougall is my current inspiration. He says to eat lots of starch for satisfaction. Just stay away from the oils, butter, dairy. I'm starting out by adding the starches, and cutting back on the meats, dairy and fats. Although, we did have lasagne and root beer floats today. lol It is the last day of 2011. Time to celebrate!
Welcome to Hayward
Kicking around town can be lots of fun. Come join me.

You deserve to live a beautiful life!
Yesterday, dad and I went to Uncle Joe and Auntie Isabel's. Later, we all went to eat at Jack in the Box over on Santa Rita in Pleasanton. Lots of fun.
This morning, dad and I are going to the movies. We are going to see, "We Bought a Zoo" with Matt Damon.
Bev and Frank Mendez's dog Daisy died last week. We stopped by their house today. They went over to the Hayward Animal Shelter and brought home an adorable 7-year old Chihuahua. She is black and Bev named her "Ivory". uh, ok. lol They had to have her fixed and she is recovering. She was all wrapped up in blankets in a basket, and she slipped out of the blankets and basket and came and laid at dad's feet. She is a real people-person dog. Very sweet.

Do All Things With Love
Yesterday, dad and I went to Southland and got him a couple of pairs of Russell's fleece pants at Sears. Also, I got some Ear Care, as my pierced ear has become infected again. This morning I will get some sea salt to use. Read John McDougall's book yesterday. Will start applying his eating methods and start eating healthier.

Healthy Nutrition
This is utterly simple and true. Health feels better than sickness. You will be happier at your ideal weight than you are overweight. You will be proud of yourself. You'll have confidence. You'll feel so many good things that right now you cannot imagine and I cannot describe. But the net effect is that you'll like yourself a lot more. You'll look in the mirror and actually like what you see; you may even love what you see. You will have honored the person within yourself who longs to be healthy, beautiful, and free of all those burdens that overweight brings. Life will not be perfect, but it will be better.
And it's easy to accomplish. All you have to do is commit yourself to following the McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss. It works.
You do not have to be a gourmet cook to make your food delicious, either. Just follow the recipes and practice cooking the food. In a very short time, you will be preparing delicious, healthful, and weight-reducing meals. Day by day, you'll be making your best effort at creating better health. And day by day, you'll find yourself looking better, weighing less, and feeling more energy and confidence. It doesn't happen without effort. But that's what makes it great. You earn the right to be healthier, happier, more vital, beautiful, and alive. Enjoy it. You deserve to look and feel great.

Kind Words Heal
Mike Gulden came to our house this morning and told us that his dad, Bob Gulden, died last night at 10:00pm. Rest in Peace, Sweet Bob. You were an angel on earth.
Today, dad and I had lunch with Uncle Joe and Auntie Isabel at Wendy's in Castro Valley. Poor Uncle Joe is losing it. He keeps saying that Jack LaLanne could not have died - he just saw him on T.V. and he looked good. We have been over this several different times now. It's honestly a little scary.
Went to go to the jacuzzi - it is broken again. Turns out, no one ordered the parts. Hopefully, the parts may come in the end of this week. I could sure use a nice soak. I feel tired and achy.

You're moving forward.
Today is Auntie Isabel's 93rd birthday. She was born December 21, 1918. Dad went to exercise class and then they had a pot luck Christmas lunch. Then dad and Bill took a long drive to Tracy, Mountain House, Livermore, and Ripon. He loved it. I was told at the library today, that I could not come in barefoot. We visited Bob Gulden. Mike and Barry are leaving to go back home to Redding and Utah Friday and will have around the clock care for $20 an hour for Bob. I think this is going to be too hard on Betty not having any family near by. Henry Nunes, across the street, is very sick and is now on dialysis. Carol called tonight. Sounds like we have a skunk right outside between our two houses. They can smell it, but so far, we can not smell anything.

Believe in yourself.
Yesterday, dad and I went to the movies and saw, "Sherlock Holmes, A Game of Shadows" with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. Came home and watched the Oakland Raiders (lost) and made oolio oolio again! Delicious!
The air conditioning guy is coming this morning to do the annual check-up. No family luncheon today. Uncle Joe is going in for a cat-scan. He is still losing weight and we don't know why. Luigi and I have been doing lots of luscious hibernating. I think we slept 17 hours the other day. I can just count our blessings that we have the luxury of doing this. I feel like a happy bear in its natural habitat and hibernating. tee hee

You will do great things. You already have!
This morning, dad, Luigi and I picked up some books from the library. Then we took a drive to see Tony Jurado's house. It is in a beautiful neighborhood. I'm really glad we took a drive to see it. We took all the back roads back to San Leandro. The back roads are always the best roads! Then we drove by Auntie Dorothy's house. Auntie Isabel thinks it may be sold. Nothing final yet. Then we went to Fremont and found the house of one of the guys that dad used to work with. We got home and made oolio oolio. Delicious! Now, dad and bill are out in Bill's golf cart delivering Christmas Cards. Beautiful day. And Luigi was such a good boy the whole day. He gets better and better every day.

You deserve to be happy.
Dad went to exercise class this morning. Then we met Uncle Joe and Auntie Isabel for lunch at Wendy's restaurant in Castro Valley. Bob Gulden is dying. He has been our neighbor for 61 years. He and Betty and their sons, Barry and Mike, lived across the street from us growing up. Later Bob and Betty moved to our mobile home park here, right down the street from us. Bob is 89. Until recently he was in dad's exercise class. But, today the hospital is sending him home. They said that we need to talk to him within a day, because he is going to go very quickly. His body is shutting down. We stopped by to see him, but there was a long delay, and the hospital bed had not been delivered to the house yet. Hospice is coming tonight. This one has kind of shaken dad and I to our core. Every one I know these days, is at the age of dying. I try to appreciate every single day, but it is always hanging over us. Sometimes, I wish it would be over, and I could move on. But, somehow I know it's always kind of hanging over you anyway. This is definitely the easiest time of my life. Pretty boring. But, I know I'll miss how truly easy these times are. Life is never perfect. This end of life stuff is just so hard to wrap your head around. Is it good? Is it bad? It just is. But, it is the tough part. Life is about change. But the end of life is so permanent. Is there an afterlife? Is there reincarnation? Is there..... These are the questions we are just not meant to have serious answers to. It's just goodbye, I'll miss you, hope to see you again. Really. I don't know. I don't like this part. Guess it reminds you to love and live today. Celebrate life. It is brief.

Relax! It's good for you!
This morning dad took a ride with Bill to take Corky's son and daughter-in-law to the airport. Nice and fast during commute hours as they were able to use the "commuter lane". I ran to Kaiser for my check-up. Looks good. Dad and I brought home KFC for lunch. That was a fun treat. Went to the post office - what a haul! I'll be plenty busy!

There are always blessings to count.
This morning dad and I went shopping at Walmart and Lucky's. We came home and had bacon and eggs for breakfast. Then we watched both the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers. They were both on at 1:00pm. They both lost. I made Ghirardelli fudge brownies for a fun treat. It was a nice day. Then I mentioned "On Demand" and for the thousandth time dad said, "What's that". I said good night. haha Sometimes I just run out of patience. But, overall it was a nice day.

A fresh start can happen anytime!
Yesterday, I ordered a Kindle book for children to learn balloon twisting. Also, ordered Qualatex 260 Latex balloons and the Gymnic Faster Blaster, which is a pump to blow up the balloons. Knowing me, I'll probably make one animal with the twisting balloons. It's just something new and fun to occupy me. I still have the harmonica and DVD that I bought last year - nope, ain't done one thing with it, "Yet!" lol

Joy can surprise you when you least expect it!
This morning dad and I will run down to the clubhouse for coffee and hot chocolate early, while the cleaning ladies are here. At noon, dad has a doctor's appointment with Dr. Mirza to get all of his prescriptions renewed. Then, at 1:00pm we meet Uncle Joe and Auntie Isabel at Home Town Buffet for lunch. That's a nice full day for us. lol

Treat yourself. You deserve it!
A nice, quiet day. Dad went to exercise. I ate tacos and ice cream. Watched Judge Judy. Dad came home. We watched Huell Howser shows. Ate sardines and saltines. Played fetch in the house with Luigi. Carlos came over and borrowed Tapatio hot sauce for his burrito. Now, I will browse the computer, read my book on my cell phone and take a nap. It is a gorgeous, relaxing day. Aaaahhhhhhh.

Do something nice!
Dad and I went to visit Dale Palmer at Gateway Center Rehab this morning. We had to leave him a note and did not get to see him. Then we went and had the Jumbo Breakfast at Jack in the Box. We picked up Luigi and went and visited with cousin Cookie and Bev Morgan. It is a nice, bright, sunny day. I finished "The Barefoot Sisters Southbound" on Kindle; and ordered the kindle version of "The Barefoot Sisters Walking Home." Loved the first book and can't wait the start the second. I absolutely love reading it on my cell phone.

Open your heart and wonderful things will fill it!
Woke up feeling happy this morning. Still reading, "Barefoot Sisters" on the Appalacian Trail on my cell phone. Really loving this book. As they are freezing hiking in December through the worst winter - I get all snugly in my bed, turn up my electric blanket, put on extra layers of clothes, cuddly with Luigi, enjoy the quiet. Today is going to be all football. Three games to watch all day and night. Plus, Tiger Woods golf. Will make bacon and eggs for breakfast. Last night three police cars with down the block. Charli has died. We think she was only about 75. Not sure how they found her. Bill said he recently had seen her mail box full of mail and he pushed it all back in and closed the mailbox door. She was all alone. I'm pretty sure that's how I'll be. But I hope I'm a healthy 115! :-)

MEDICAL TOURISM ASSOCIATION
Someday, I would really like to have LASIK Eye Surgery.
Just learned that we can go to www.medicaltourismassociation.com
The MTA website lists 33 medical-travel facilitators - also known as brokers, agents, or concierges - based in the U.S. and abroad who specialize in setting up medical trips overseas. They can help you pick the best place to go for your medical procedure, contact the doctor and hospital, get a price proposal, transfer your medical records, arrange for visas, even set up transportation, hotels, and an escort, if you need them. Their expertise will cost you - Companion Global Healthcare, for example, charges a flat fee of $700 - but the peace of mind may be worth it. For instance, the price of LASIK surgery in America for both eyes averages $4,400 total. It's just $500 in India. Heart bypass here is $144,000 - in India it costs an average of $5,200. Hip replacement $50,000 - Thailand, only $7,879. Colonoscopy $3,080 - Mexico, $800. Dental implants - $2,800 per tooth - Costa Rica, $900 per tooth.
In addition, it is a great excuse to Travel!
Later this morning, Bill is driving dad, Dan Patten and myself to Harry's Hofbrau. The morning walking group - which dad used to belong to when he could walk - are having their Christmas lunch today and we have been invited.

You were born to make a difference.
Going back to Claudia's for electrolysis this morning. About two months ago, I went and had about six hairs removed. They are all back. Should I go back to the same place? Sure, why not. These things don't necessarily work in just one visit. I have scheduled a quick 10-minute appointment, so I will be in and out quickly.
Went to the movies and saw, "Arthur Christmas". It's an animated movie. Picked up Chinese food for dad and I on the way home. Dad went to exercise and out for a hot dog with Bill afterwards.

Hugs help. Share one!
Our Thursday Family Day has been cancelled. Lots of doctors appointments. Uncle Joe has to go get lots of blood tests at the Oncology Department. They just cannot seem to find out answers to his stomach problems; the lump on his stomach; his diarrhea. He just keeps getting sicker. Auntie Isabel has eye doctor appointments.
So, dad and I are going to the movies and see "The Muppets".
